524.1484a Neomycin sulfate ophthalmic ointment. Specifications: Each gram of the ointment contains 5 milligrams of neomycin sulfate equivalent in activity to 3.5 milligrams of neomycin base. Conditions of use: Dogs Amount: The drug is applied four times each day. Indications: The drug is intended for use in dogs for the treatment of superficial ocular bacterial infections limited to the conjunctival or the anterior segment of the eye. Limitations: The drug is applied by inserting the tip of the tube beneath the lower lid and by expressing a small quantity of ointment into conjunctival sac. The tip of the tube should not come in contact with the eye surface. Severe infections should be supplemented by systemic therapy. Prolonged administration of the drug may permit overgrowth of organisms that are not susceptible to neomycin. If new infections to bacteria or fungi appear during therapy, appropriate measures should be taken. Federal law restricts this drug to use by or on the order of a licensed veterinarian. | Tolerances |
Tolerances are established for residues of parent neomycin in uncooked edible tissues as follows: a. In cattle, swine, sheep, and goats: 7.2 parts per million in kidney (target tissue) and fat, 3.6 ppm in liver, and 1.2 ppm in muscle. b. In turkeys: 7.2 ppm in skin with adhering fat, 3.6 parts per million in liver, and 1.2 ppm in muscle. c. In milk: 0.15 part per million. |
