522.1696a Sterile benzathine penicillin G and procaine penicillin G suspension.

Specifications: Each milliliter contains 150,000 units of benzathine penicillin G and 150,000 units of procaine penicillin G in aqueous suspension.

Conditions of use:

Horses

Amount: 2 milliliters per 150 pounds of body weight intramuscularly. Repeat dosage in 48 hours.

Indications: Treatment of bacterial infections susceptible to penicillin G.

Limitations: Do not use in horses intended for food purposes. Federal law restrict this drug to use by or on the order of a licensed veterinarian.

Dogs

Amount: 1 milliliter per 10 to 25 pounds of body weight intramuscularly or subcutaneously. Repeat dosage in 48 hours.

Indications: Treatment of bacterial infections susceptible to penicillin G.

Limitations: Federal law restrict this drug to use by or on the order of a licensed veterinarian.

Cattle (beef)

Amount: 2 milliliters per 150 pounds of body weight intramuscularly or subcutaneously. Repeat dosage in 48 hours. Treatment should be limited to two doses.

Indications: Treatment of bacterial infections susceptible to penicillin G.

Limitations: Not to be used in beef cattle within 30 days of slaughter. Federal law restrict this drug to use by or on the order of a licensed veterinarian.

Amount: 2milliliters per 150 pounds of body weight subcutaneously. Repeat dosage in 48 hours.

Indications: Treatment of bacterial pneumonia (shipping fever) (Streptococcus species, C pyogenes, S. aureus); upper respiratory infections such as rhinitis or pharyngitis (C. pyrogenes); and blackleg (C. chauvoei).

Limitations: Limit treatment to 2 doses. Not for use within 30 days of slaughter.

NAS/NRC status: These conditions are NAS/NRC reviewed and deemed effective. Applications for these uses need not include data as specified by 514.111 of this chapter.

Tolerances

Tolerances are established for residues of penicillin and the salts of penicillin in food as follows:

a. In cattle: 0.05 part per million (negligible residue) in the uncooked edible tissues b. In chickens, pheasants, quail, swine, and sheep: zero in the uncooked edible tissues c. In milk or any processed food in which milk has been used: zero d. In eggs: zero e. In turkeys: 0.01 part per million in the uncooked edible tissues
