558.195 Decoquinate Specifications: Type A medicated articles: 6 percent decoquinate. Type A medicated articles containing 6 percent decoquinate may be used to manufacture dry or liquid Type B cattle (including veal calf), sheep, and goat feeds. Conditions of use: Cattle (beef and non-lactating dairy) Amount: 13.6 to 27.2 grams per ton combined with chlortetracycline approximately 400 grams per ton, varying with body weight and feed consumption to provide 10 milligrams per pound of body weight per day. Indications: For treatment of bacterial enteritis caused by Escherichia coli, and for treatment of bacterial pneumonia caused by Pasteurella multocida organisms susceptible to chlortetracycline. Limitations: Feed type C feed to provide 22.7 mg decoquinate and 1 gram chlortetracycline per 100 pounds body weight (0.5 milligram per kilogram per day) for not more than 5 days. Type C may be prepared from Type B feed containing 535.8 to 5,440 grams per ton decoquinate and 6,700 to 80,000 grams per ton chlortetracycline. When consumed, feed for a total of 28 days to prevent coccidiosis. Withdrawal 24 prior to slaughter. Do not feed to calves to be processed for veal. Do not feed to animals producing milk for food. Bentonite should not be used in decoquinate feeds. |

Tolerances are established for the sum of tetracycline residues in tissues of beef cattle, nonlactating dairy cows, calves, swine, sheep, chickens, turkeys, and duck or 2 parts per million in muscle, 6 parts per million in liver, and 12 parts per million in fat and kidney. A tolerance is established for residues of chlortetracycline in eggs of 0.4 part per million. Tolerances for residues of decoquinate in food are established in uncooked edible tissues of chickens, cattle, and goats at 2 parts per million in tissues other than skeletal muscle, and 1 part per million in skeletal muscle. |
