  1. NO. "steroid" is just a term meaning "Hormone". Anabolic steroids is what body-builders will use to bulk up their muscles...it contains various hormones including testosterone, progesterone. Corticosteroids is a synthetic (man-made) hormone that replaces the cortisol that is normally produced by your adrenal glands (one on each kidney). Corticosteroids are powerful anti-inflammatory drugs, and they are also used for patients who have had transplants (to keep them from rejecting their new organ).
Prednisone, Medrol, Solu-Cortef (intravenous), all fall into the category of corticosteroids. Only to be used for short-term therapy, as long-term can cause steroid-dependence, serious side effects including Cushing's Syndrome, loss of muscle, thinning of skin and if you stop taking them abruptly, can cause death due to Adrenal Failure.
These are good drugs, to be taken exactly as your doctor prescribed. You should have a positive response from these drugs in 24-48 hrs. Powered by Yahoo Answers http://answers.yahoo.com/
